SIMMS COMMUNITY CHURCH STATEMENT OF FAITH:
We believe the Bible, in it's entirety, is the inspired Word of God. (2 Peter 1:20-21, 2 Timothy 3:16-17, Psalm 119:89, 105)
We believe there is only one living and true God revealed in three Persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit (John 14:26, Deuteronomy 6:4, Matthew 3:16-17, Ephesians 2:16-22)
We believe that in order to have eternal life, a person must be "born again" or born from above by the Holy Spirit. (John 3:1-21, John 14:6, John 5:24, Acts 16:30-31)
We believe Salvation only comes through belief and faith in Jesus Christ, the Lamb of God. (John 3:14-15, Acts 16:29-31, Romans 10:8-13)
We believe in the virgin birth of the Lord Jesus Christ, His sacrificial death for our sins, His bodily resurrection, and His return. Christ is now our King, High Priest, Apostle, and Advocate, and is seated at the right hand of God the Father on High. (Matthew 1:18, Hebrews 4:15, Isaiah 7:14, Luke 22:69, Luke 23:26-49)
We believe that the true Church is composed of all such persons who, through saving faith and belief in Jesus Christ, have been regenerated by the Holy Spirit and are united together in the Body of Christ of which He is the Head. (1 Corinthians 12-14, Colossians 1:13-23, Ephesians 4:1-16)
We believe that water baptism and the Lord's Supper are ordinances to be observed by the Church during the present age. They are, however, not to be regarded as a means of Salvation. They are an outward sign of your faith and testimony of and in Christ. (John 14:6, Acts 3:38, 8:12, 19:2-4, 1 Peter 3:21, Colossians 2:12, 1 Corinthians 12:13, Galatians 3:27, 1 Corinthians 11:23-27, Matthew 26:26-28, John 6:33-35, 53-58)
We believe that the baptism or the indwelling of the Holy Spirit takes place at the time of conversion and is the act of placing the believer into the Body of Christ. This is distinct and different from the "filling" of the Holy Spirit which is commanded of all believers. The "filling" of the Holy Spirit is continuous and ongoing and brings the believer under the influence of the Holy Spirit which, in turn, produces Christlikeness and/or the Fruit of the Spirit. (Romans 6:3-5, Colossians 2:12, Ephesians 5:18, Acts 4:31, John 4:13-14, 7:38, Galatians 5:22-23.)
